Grace is a healing agent that refuses to capitalize on our vulnerability to tell the story about our identity.
This piece has multiple layers. Below the surface, words and various stories are covered in a lavish coat of white paint to symbolize how grace handles the broken places much differently than we would ever expect, it is so lavish we can't help to feel
"I don't deserve this" until we are truly able to surrender to the process. Then Grace tells our story from a different perspective...with such love and kindness.
Grace boldly whispers truth into the deepest part of our soul until we believe it, "You are not broken. You are a masterpiece in the making. You have character, texture, and layers, but that's what makes you beautiful." True grace doesn't lie or cover that there's a story to tell, grace can't truly be grace until it meets truth. Grace speaks with truth creativity and begins to create something beautiful from the things we see as ashes, trash, and brokenness in our lives.
When we treat ourselves & others with kindness and grace that's when we see true change come into existence.
Art tells a beautiful story when told with grace.

This "grace." piece tells the bitter sweet story of a family and young girl in the process being rescued from Ukraine through adoption. Textured tapestry flows throughout the surface creating an almost life like movement where it tells the story of hopes, dreams, tragedy, and the gentleness of how "grace." comes to that busy intersection to change perspective and recreate something beautiful from the ashes.

"Where your beautiful "grace." piece has landed for now...for this season, it makes me smile when I see it because the chest piece it is sitting on and the mirror above it have significant memories of grace filled times with my mother in-law attached to it. I think this piece will find a "home" in different places and rooms depending on the "season" we are in." - Theresa
"grace." I feel an "urgency" to apply it to my life and other lives, to seek it and find it.

No one, regardless of social status, race or gender makes it out of life without wounds. At some point, everyone is broken and how we treat this brokenness within ourselves and others makes all the difference. I love New York city. It's as though every culture is richly represented in one place. Maybe more than any other location, the subway provides the perfect opportunity to people watch. People line up next to one another like the tiles on the walls in the under ground tunnels. What if everyone's story was portrayed on a simple tile... would any tile be presented without a blemish? Be Kind, is my attempt to capture these stories with Kintsugi art, a philosophy that makes no attempt to hide damage, instead it illuminates the repairing process using gold which gives it more value than before it was broken. What if brokenness was just an opportunity to fill lives with empathy, grace & kindness? What if kindness was the gold you have to offer the person next to you?
